Leaky joint renders vacuum useless when the feeder is tilted slightly. By John.S

Picked one of these feeders up yesterday, it is being returned today!, it leaks and there is no way of preventing it without a sealed joint on the base unit and without it it is going to continue to leak no matter how quickly you turn it upright to form a vacuum The vacuum created in the bottle is only good when the feeder is in the upright position and it stays upright, any slight breeze blows it a few degrees out of the upright position and air enters the bottom chamber through the joint which renders the vacuum useless.

Hello John,

When the base is tightly secured to the bottle, this feeder should not leak when in the upright position.  In windy areas though, the feeder may tilt enough to allow some nectar to escape.  For best results, we recommend placing the feeder in a sheltered location.  This will help prevent leaking as well as make the hummingbirds happy, as they prefer to feed in calm environments.

We apologize for this experience and hope this information is helpful.  Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) with any additional questions.

We are sorry to hear about this experience and are happy to help. When the bottle is tightly secured to the base, and the feeder is turned upright quickly to create a vacuum, it should not leak.

This feeder is covered by a one year replacement warranty. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) for additional assistance.

Popular with the hummers By Kathleen

I have multiple feeders around my property and this one is by far the favorite "go to" for my hummingbird visitors. I ended up buying a second one and not disappointed. Both of these always empty first from all the usage. Easy to fill and clean. I have not experienced any leaking as some reviews stated, but you do have to flip it over quickly after filling as suggested. No complaints here, I would but this again.

Rust By Buffie

This caught my eye immediately when I was at Home Depot, so I went ahead and purchased it... even though it was a bit more expensive than the others. My other cheaper feeder didn't attract any hummers, so I was thinking maybe I was getting what I paid for. Fast forward one week, and the copper is already rusting. I wished that had occurred to me to consider before buying. Granted, I've seen a hummer or two, but that was days ago. Not sure what can be done to prevent that.

Rusts By Brown County Gal
I bought this feeder at the beginning of the season because it seemed to be easy to clean. I was disappointed to see that the holes rusted. This can't be good for the birds:(

Keep Looking....not worth the money. By Leach
I purchased two feeders a little over a month ago. I really like the design as I figured they'd be easy to clean and easy to refill and the really are. I liked they are metal and glass, because living in Florida, plastic rots too quickly in the heat and the mold grows, which is bad for the birds. Unfortunately, after two weeks, the metal on the feeder started rusting. The "copper" is just the color of the metal, (which makes sense as copper being infused in the nectar would hurt the birds). Also, it took a few days for me to get the hang of flipping them over as the DO leak badly whenever they move. If you don't quickly flip the feeder over (they fill from the bottom) and make sure it's not moving, all of the nectar will leak out. If the wind is blowing and moving the feeder, the nectar will slowly leak drop, by drop. It's truly a shame.....

Bee guard does not work By coltstarbucks
Selected this feeder (Elegant Copper) because of its no leak feature, but the small bees (wasp type) were still able to enter the holes and get into the nectar. What is need is a cover that allows the hummer to insert its beak but not let the insects get in. Planning to return the feeder.
Response From Woodstreambrands
Patty : Consumer Relations Representative
The center of the flower feeding port is deeper to prevent most bees from accessing the nectar. We appreciate the feedback provided and apologize for this experience.

Nice feeder but came damaged By WoJo
I received my feeder on Friday. It looked great. However, when I filled it, I noticed it was leaking - I noticed there was a dent in the copper at the bottom of the feeder, which caused the leak. Too bad, as I was looking forward to using this neat little feeder.

Terrible Design By Bird feerer
Bad design needs some type of seal between two lower pieces hard plastic against hard plastic does not seal leaks like a sieve no matter how tight its screwed together should come with a rubber gasket or "O" ring I solved leak by applying bead of silicone calk between upper and lower bases but now can not take apart for easy cleaning
Response From Woodstreambrands
Patty : Consumer Relations Representative
It is important to turn the feeder over very quickly after the base is screwed onto the bottle. The vacuum created will keep the base from leaking. We do not recommend modifying the feeder in any way.

Feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) with any additional questions.

Tips

Hummingbird Feeders - Expert Tips

Filling Your Feeder:

Here are a few things to review before filling the feeder:

  1. Check to make sure the base compartments are securely tightened
  2. Push container into base to close ports to prevent leakage
  3. Unscrew to cap to fill with nectar
  4. Screw cap back on securely to form an airtight seal.
  5. We recommend keeping the feeder in the closed position until you get to the spot where you want to hang it.
  6. To open nectar reservoir - hold base with one hand and pull up on the container with the other to open ports for feeding. Your feeder is now ready.

Please note: if the cap does not fit securely on to the feeder and you see a gap between the cap and the feeder, the seal may be the issue. Please contact our Consumer Care Department at 1.800.800.1819 or consumers@woodstream.com to request a new outer ring for you cap.

To replace the outer ring, push firmly on the center of the cap to pop out the middle. Replace with new outer ring.

Hanging Your Feeder
