Review RateSquirrels love it!
This is my second one and the same thing happened to it as to the first one. It lasts under two years, the inner tube cracks down the seam, the squirrels chew through the plastic on the bottom holes. If it weren't for the squirrels this probably would have lasted longer and would be a nice bird feeder as the birds love it when the squirrels aren't hanging off it. But like a previous reviewer wrote, they jump on it, hang upside down and eat away.Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative
We appreciate the time taken to provide this feedback and apologize for the experience.
The metal cage is designed to prevent damage to the feeder from squirrels. Additional measures can be taken to keep squirrels away. We recommend placing feeders at least 5 feet above the ground and 10 feet from the nearest jumping-off point, such as trees or decks. Adding cayenne pepper or safflower seed to the mix will turn squirrels away.

I ordered 2 of these feeders following an invasion of American Goldfinches and it was the best thing I had done. These feeders hold a super amount of sunflower hearts and I had enough seed to maintain this large flock of 45 goldfinches and House Finches. I highly recommend this easy to fill feeder and above all it is easy to clean.
Review RatePoorly made product
I ordered two of these, and both of the plastic containers inside were cracked and broken. The packaging was horrible - nothing protecting either one of them side by side. So had to wait a week for two replacements plastic containers, and they were packaged better, but I noticed lined cracks in both of them. I didn't bother calling to have new ones sent. The metal is fine, but the plastic container is poorly made. Will not order anymore of these, and was very disappointed in the product.Response From WoodstreambrandsSusan : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateEasy to useLove so far! Holds plenty of feed and easy to fill. Lots of openings so many birds can access at once. Took the birds a couple days to learn to use but now it's getting plenty of use!
Review RateGreat BirdfeederLove this Bird feeder! Easy to fill & clean. Many birds can eat at the same time. It's fun to watch them. Ordering was easy .
Review RateQualityThis is my second Fortress Feeder. The first one lasted 10 years until a windstorm knocked it off the branch from which it was hanging. This one looks like it will last at least as long.
Review RateHolds lots of sunflower seedsThe birds love it and the squirrels quickly learned to leave it alone.
Nothing available for them.
Review RateFeeder FailureWe have had bird feeders for 15 years and thought we would try a new feeder. Birds refuse to use the feeder...its like they can't find the holes in the feeder so we put little sticks in the holes hoping this would help. That didn't work, so after two weeks we put back their old feeder and the birds are back.
Review RateNot Squirrel ProofI have been using this very feeder for years now. I buy a new one when the old one rusts out. I never kid myself that ANY feeder is squirrel proof. For this particular feeder? The squirrel just jumps on it, hangs upside down using the cage on the outside for his claws to grasp on to. Then they just hang and eat all day long. Even though this happens, I still love this feeder!
Review Ratesteel vs. plasticOuter part is steel--which will last forever. Inner part is plastic--which lasts a few months. Logical solution? Offer replacement inner part!Response From WoodstreambrandsLauren : Consumer Relations RepresentativeThanks to valuable feedback from customers like yourself, replacement parts are now available for this feeder! While they are not currently available on our website, they can be ordered from our catalog.
