Review RateGreat Product - Expensive to Operate
I have the yellow one of these that I found at Lowe's. I love the design. My neighbor said it looks like an art sculpture. It holds a very large volume of nyjer seed. There are two baffles in the tube that help distribute the seed evenly as it is consumed. This allows the finches to have more room as they eat. The tray catches a lot of seeds. At the end of the day, I have to discard said nyjer seed from the tray, as it may contain droppings and spent seed casings. This feeder needs to be refilled almost nightly as the lesser goldfinches swarm it daily. It has proven to be an expensive method of feeding them. Nyjer is costly, but it is a joy to watch.
Review RateGreat Feeder
The finches love this feeder, and so easy to clean. We have ground birds that jump on the tray and eat the fallen seed. Also Doves that eat the seed that makes it to the ground. Everyone is happy!
Review RateWonderful thistle feeder
Love this feeder...easy to fill and very sturdy. I love that the seed doesn't accumulate at the bottom and get moldy...the finches love it!
Review RateFinch feeder
My finches love this feeder!!! I like that the tray catches the thistle, so that none goes to waste. The feeder is great quality and is easy to keep clean and fill. Will definitely purchase future feeders
Review RateI love this feeder, so do the birds! It even withstands bears!
Review RateGreat FeederMy last finch feeder the squirrels ate through the plastic tube spilling out all of the thistle seed. This one is a strong metal, and so far the squirrels haven't been able to chew it up. I like the shape and durability of this feeder.
Review RateLooking for Great Finch Feeder!Just purchased February 5, 2016 based on reviews and design. Looking for feeder with cover that does not allow mold, mesh for multiple birds to feed, and tray for excess food--will keep you posted on how this product holds up!!
Review RateDisappointedLovely feeder, but the Utah birds aren't enthused about it. Sorry.Response From WoodstreambrandsSusan : Consumer Relations RepresentativeBirds are creatures of habit and can sometimes take several weeks to begin using a new feeder. Temporarily removing any other established feeders, or placing a shiny pie pan with seed in it under the feeder are great ways to help them adjust to a new addition.

Review RatePerfect Finnch FeederI just received 2 of these feeders. The birds really love them, and I love the fact there is no plastic that gets clogged and is hard to clean. I would highly recommend these feeders!
Review RateAmazon ReviewThis is a fantastic feeder. The mesh is solid and chew proof and the mesh is too fine for large birds and squirrels to use, so you only find small songbirds on this feeder. Both the top and bottom come off for easy filling or cleaning, but attach firmly so that squirrels cannot get inside. One of the most clever aspects of this feeder is that, as it empties, the nyjer seed stays distributed vertically within the feeder so that birds can feed along the entire height of the feeder right up until the point that it is empty. I've seen eight birds on this simultaneously, but the comfortable limit seems to be five birds. Even though this feeder has birds feeding on it most of the day, I've only needed to refill it every 5 weeks.

- Keeping your feeder clean and full of fresh bird seed is very important to the health of visiting birds. It is recommended that you clean your wild bird feeder every two weeks. more»
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What are the most popular bird seeds to use?
A: Black Oil Sunflower Seed is the most popular bird seed. It is much smaller than the traditional sunflower seed and best for those birds with smaller bills, such as the sparrow, junco and goldfinch. This seed is accepted by the greatest variety of birds.
Mixed Seed is also popular. It is best to buy the mixes that contain white proso millet, a tiny cream colored seed with a shiny shell. Mixes containing finely cracked corn and black oil sunflower are also preferred by a large number of birds.
Thistle Seed is imported from Africa and Asia. Thistle won't germinate, however, it has a tendency to become moldy due to lack of air circulation. If you notice mold on the seed, it must be removed from the feeder and the feeder must be cleaned thoroughly.
Q: How do I clean my bird feeders?
A: No/No feeders can be dish washed or hand washed. Before filling your feeders with fresh seed, it is recommended that the following precautions are taken:
- Remove all old seed.
- Place the feeder on top rack of the dish washer.
- Allow the feeder to dry completely before refilling.
- Remove all old seed.
- Soak feeder in water.
- Gently cleanse feeder and allow to air dry.
After the feeder is clean and dry follow these steps
- Rake and remove accumulated hulls and droppings from underneath the feeders.
- Spread mulch (bark or wood) under the feeder, replace mulch when soiled.
- Thoroughly wash hands after handling and cleaning feeders.
Q: What is the importance of providing water for wild birds?
A: Wild birds need fresh, clean water just as much as they need seed. Birds stay healthy by using water not just for drinking, but also for bathing, cleaning their feathers and to remove parasites. Waterers are better options than bird baths because they provide birds with fresh, clean water that prevents dirt and debris from contaminating it. In hotter climates or seasons, providing water for birds makes it easy for them to have access to a water source and retain their energy. By adding a water source, you also can attract a larger variety of birds to your yard. You may even attract more colorful birds that don't eat seed, but are in need of water!
