Perky-Pet® 4 Foot Hummerbar® Hummingbird Feeder

Perky-Pet® 4 Foot Hummerbar® Hummingbird Feeder

Looking to feed all your hummingbirds at once—from just one feeder? Perky-Pet® has exactly what you're looking for!

The revolutionary Perky-Pet® 4 Foot Hummerbar® Hummingbird Feeder offers a whopping 44 feeding ports in one easy to fill and easy to clean feeder.

With a patented design, the Hummerbar® hangs horizontally from your porch or patio. Each port is perfectly spaced to allow hummingbirds to feed side-by-side, meaning you could literally be feeding 44 hummingbirds at one time.

The Hummerbar® is built of a shatter-resistant clear plastic, which allows you to monitor nectar levels. The feeder ports are molded with red plastic, a color that's a proven attractant to hummingbirds. The hanging cords, end caps and stopper are a matching red, adding to your chances a hummingbird will investigate the massive feeder. With the Hummerbar®, you'll have the ultimate hummingbird feeder!

How to hang the Hummerbar®

  1. Remove an end cap.
  2. Remove nectar-pouring funnel from tube.
  3. Replace the end cap.
  4. Select an outdoor area to hang the Hummerbar®.
  5. Hang using loops at end of hanging cords—make sure the feeder is low enough to access for refilling and cleaning.
  6. Level the Hummerbar® by adjusting its cords. Slide cord locks up and down as needed to level.
  7. Remove rubber stopper from nectar basin and insert funnel.
  8. Fill about 1/4th full with Perky-Pet® hummingbird nectar. Compare each end by eye. If nectar is pooling to one side, then adjust cord locks again.
  9. Once nectar is evenly distributed, continue to fill nectar basin until half full. Do not overfill.
  10. Remove funnel, insert rubber stopper.

Hummingbird Nectar

For best results, provide your hummingbirds with Perky-Pet®'s 100% sucrose formula nectar. Sucrose-based nectar is the ideal food for hummers since it converts to energy quicker.

Only fill the Hummerbar® about half-full. Overfilling the Hummerbar® can cause leakage.

Too Big?

If a 4-foot Perky-Pet® Hummerbar® is too big for your porch or patio, then try the the 2-foot version. With 22 feeder ports, you can still draw in plenty of hummingbirds.

product doesn't work By TEllen

Have no trouble filling it or keeping level, but how do you keep it from getting full of ants & bugs in 1 day? I had it all last year and never saw 1 hummingbird on it.

Fantastic Product By Tony

Easy setup. Gonna put in an order for two more. I don't get all the negative reviews concerning leveling and mess...I had zero problems and can't help but think that there are a lot of user errors happening here.

Frustrating. Hummingbird lovers deserve better. By Hummerlover

Did anyone test this item before putting it on the market? Impossible to maintain without spilling sugar water everywhere. Too difficult to thoroughly clean. Altogether unnecessary. I see it's discounted now. It's giving the company a bad name and should be taken off of the market.

On the fence By Dan

I just purchased one of these yesterday and setup. First why do you have to have a label that is almost impossible to remove and also be so large? Why not put an insert inside that is easily removed. I spent a half hour with water and Goo Gone getting rid of that. This morning I went out to check the feeder and I see that the one end cap is leaking and I have a slow drip. Not sure what I'm going to do with that. Draining this is not going to be easy and I don't really want to attract ants.

Great fedder! By LeAnn

I love my 24" Hummerbar. I have used it successfully for 2 years now and am looking to replace it. I can understand how some have trouble leveling it with the cord it comes with. The first thing I did when I got mine was replace the cord with chain. I was able to make the chains exactly the same length and I hang it from 2 nails on the eve of my house. After cleaning, I hang it empty and fill it with the little funnel while holding it still. Works perfectly! The worst thing I can say about it is removing that big label is a nightmare!

Worst Hummingbird Feeder Made by a Great Company By Annie

We have three Perky Pet hummingbird feeders which hold about four cups each, are very easy to fill and clean, and are constantly active. We received this feeder as a gift...it is terrible! We even went to the expense of building a stand to keep it level...it still is a failure! We tried hanging it and keeping it level was impossible. Don’t waste your money on this.

Look Elsewhere. A Design Disaster From the Start. By john

I purchased this product thinking that it was a new and unique way to attract hummingbirds. It is not. The bar, which contains the food, is too deep for the hummingbirds to access about 80% of the liquid. Virtually impossible to get level- if the liquid is in motion it will move to one side, make the bar unlevel and the food will drip out the lower holes. If you can get it level again, you need to refill it —but the very act of filling the bar their causes this to happen again. Stick Floor. Great ant feeder. My particular feeder leaked from an end stop and I have been unable to remove the adhesive that was used too put the large marketing sticker on the item. The cost of shipping ( which was much more than it would cost me to return it to Perky Pet) means that I would pay $16 for shipping and $10 for shipping return on a $25 item. From a marketing point of view, it makes a nice picture, but I can't imagine that the person who designed this ever actually used it. I regret that I can't say anything positive about it.

Worst feeder we have ever had. By Dianna

This is the messiest feeder we've ever had. Water pours out of the feeder holes at the least bit of movement (i.e. wind, birds, etc.). The end caps must leak, even though we had them secured, as our feeder was completely empty overnight even though there were no hummers. Unfortunately, we had removed the label (step 1 in instructions) so could not return it to the local feed store where it was purchased, or we would be returning it. Huge waste of money.

Don't waste your money on this. By Jack

Bought from Tractor Supply. Thought it would be great. I was wrong. I have tried two different places and it just droops to the side. Big waste of my money. Made a huge mess.

Response From Woodstreambrands
Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

To prevent this experience, the feeder must be hung from two points and both points must be 90° above the cord eyelets. We recommend hanging the feeder from two shepherd’s hooks.

Place the top loops of the adjustable hanging cords onto their respective hooks. Level the feeder by holding down on the top cord locks and pulling or releasing the loose end of the cord. We recommend hanging the Hummerbar® about six inches below the hooks.

We hope this information was helpful! Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) with any questions or for additional assistance.

FAQs

Hummingbird Feeders - FAQs

Q: Any more tips for hanging the Hummerbar®?

A: The most important thing to using your Hummerbar® successfully is to make sure it's level every time you hang it. If it's not level, nectar can run out of the feeder ports and make a mess.

To expertly level it, hang the Hummerbar® from two hooks and try to level it by sight. From there, get a standard "Carpenter's Level" and make the finer adjustments until the Hummerbar® is completely level.

Use the easy-grip sliders on the hanging cord to clip it into place. If those clips remain at this setting, your Hummerbar® should be level every time you hang it.

Q: How do I "test" my Hummerbar®?

A: Before you fill a Hummerbar® with nectar, you can try filling it with a little water. If the water spreads out evenly along the Hummerbar®, it's ready to take nectar. If it pools in one end, you need to work on leveling it again. Once level, drain the water out and replace with Perky-Pet® nectar.

Q: How much nectar should I put in the Hummerbar®?

A: Only fill about half of the Hummerbar® tube. The tube size was selected because it is small enough for a hummingbird's tongue to reach the bottom. If you over-fill the tube, it may spill. Also, you don't want to put in so much that it spoils before hummingbirds drink it all.

Q: How often should I clean my Hummerbar®?

A: In hot weather, clean the Hummerbar® (and any hummingbird feeder) every two days to keep mold from forming. With that in mind, you should only fill your Hummerbar® with as much nectar as your hummingbirds will drink in those two days. You don't want to have to take it down when it's full!

Q: It's leaking out of some of the ports! What do I do?

A: There are two possible reasons your Hummerbar® is leaking from the feeder ports. First, you may have over-filled the Hummerbar®. You should only fill the Hummerbar® about half-way with nectar. The other problem that may cause leaking from the feeder ports is if the Hummerbar® isn't completely level. You should carefully take it down, drain it and then re-level it.

Q: It's leaking out of the end caps! What do I do?

A: If your Hummerbar® is dripping out of either end cap, you probably didn't push the seal into place. Carefully grip both ends of the Hummerbar® and push the seals toward one another, this should lock the seal. Try not to knock the Hummerbar® out of balance when you do! Finally, wipe the leaking end with a damp cloth.

Q: The weather forecast says we're due for some severe weather, should I take my Hummerbar® down?

A: You don't need to, but it may keep the Hummerbar® from spilling if the winds pick up and begin to jostle the feeder.

Q: How else can I attract hummingbirds?

A: You can bring more hummingbirds to your yard by adding hummingbird-friendly flowers, including zinnias, butterfly bushes, columbines and salvias. Also make sure you have a good source of water for hummingbirds and other birds.
