Review RateWorst Feeder Ever
worst feeder I ever bought - no matter what we try to do to it, it leaks all the juice out. Just purchased and trying to use. Leaks around the flowersResponse From WoodstreambrandsSusan : Consumer Relations Representative
Prior to filling this feeder, the bottle should be pressed down towards the base. The feeder can then be filled, and the base and lid both checked to ensure a tight seal. To allow the nectar to flow into the base, the bottle should be pulled up until a "pop" is heard.

Review RateNo good
Too many leaks. I tried every possible asasembly sequence after I had cleaned the feeder. Nectar kept pouring out through the seam in the two part base. I got rid of this feeder after several failrd attempts to put it back togetherResponse From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateLeaky Leaky and leaky!
Terrible leaks! Lost lots of nectar on this one.... tried with water.... worked... put nectar in.... leaked! Word of advice....tighten bottom as tight as you can ladies... the get your guy to tighten. Fill from smaller hole then add bottom on top of it. Voila... no leaks now! Would like to say... this isn't by any means my first feeder.... definately not as easy as the video shows! Shouldn't really need a video. Simple... but leaks!Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateSuggestion to solving problem
I have several of these feeders and the earlier ones I have had to replace not because they are defective but living in Louisiana the humidity and summer heat will effect the plastic, but no big deal, when the newness of color has faded, it is time to replace. I have read the disappointments and I can only say that your assembly should be redone. The very recent feeder that I purchased started to leak, I took it apart, washed it in warm water, firmly screwed in the bottom half to the top half and I mean firmly screw, then I made sure that the top cap of the reservoir is firmly screwed, this creates the vacuum, I fill the reservoir a little different. After screwing the cap on, I will turn the reservoir upside down and fill it from bottom end that screws into the base. Once the reservoir is filled, I will then firmly screw the base in, flip the feeder upright, pull up on the reservoir and you will see the nectar fill the base and wallah you should be good to go. When it is time to fill the reservoir start from the cleaning steps. It works for me I hope it works for you.
Review RateBest Hummer Feeder
I have had the Magnolia Hummingbird feeders for over six years. They are the best. I have five of them and none of them leak, so let me offer some suggestions. The small red circular piece that the clear container screws into will only fit into the base part in one direction. It has four tabs 90 degrees apart that will fit it into the base IF a fifth locating tab is oriented correctly. If this isn't correct you will get leaks. Once you have assembled, filled with nectar, hung, and pulled to open the nectar flow there is one last thing to do. Tap the bottle or bottom a few time to get a few bubbles to up through the nectar. This will ensure that the nectar has flowed into the bottom are the hummers to drink it. I use clear vinegar and water to clean the Hummingbird feeders. Hummingbirds do not like soap and they can detect a very small amount of it. The vinegar doesn't seem to bother them if there is a small trace left. There have been studies done on this (search online) and it seems true with my Hummers in California. I have tried many other Hummingbird feeders and the Magnolia works better than any of the others. Highly recommended.
Review RateGreat Little FeederGreat little feeder. Easy to clean and fill. On the leaking complaints you have to tighten the two bottom halfs. Then tighten the clear container. I have had zero leaks
Review RateLeaks!I have the same problem as many users - this feeder leaks, no matter how carefully and tightly it is assembled. Sometimes a slow drip, sometimes a stead drip, drip, drip. Leaks around flower stems and around seam where two bottom halves screw together with no sealing gasket. Rarely, I will get it together and it won't leak, but then the birds won't use it - they will try it then move on to another feeder. I searched through many feeders at several stores looking for a bee-proof feeder before buying this one. (Sadly, I did not check online reviews first!). As to the bees, true, they cannot get to the nectar through the flower ports, but they can get plenty around the flower bases and around the seam where the bottom halves screw together. So I always have lots of bees around whenever I decide to give this feeder another try. I keep thinking I must just be doing something wrong, but now that I have read the reviews, I know it is the product, not me. Unfortunately, I bought this a year ago, so can't return it - and I don't want to give it away to the thrift store and saddle some unsuspecting person with it, so guess it is just junk to be thrown away. I agree with others that the concept is good - that's what led me to buy this feeder - but it is poorly designed and should be replaced.Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations RepresentativeWe appreciate the time taken to provide this feedback and apologize for the experience. A leak or drip is often caused by direct sunlight or high temperatures which causes the nectar to expand. Hummingbirds often prefer to feed in shaded, sheltered environments. Placing the feeders in the shade will make the hummingbirds happy, as well as help prevent leaking.

Review RateLove it!Make sure you follow instructions!! I almost discarded it... it leaked so bad. Then I went online to watch the video, took it apart completely and followed instructions mindfully - and it works! It's the best feeder because it's SO easy to clean. I love it, thank you for a great product :-) the hummingbirds are grateful.
Review RateUseless - leaks like a faucetAfter wasting a lot of time and much nectar, I finally gave up on this feeder. It does not work right. As soon as you pour the nectar in, all of it leaks out in seconds.
I even watched the video on how to fill it and followed the instructions exactly but got the same results every time.Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations RepresentativeWe apologize for this experience and would like the opportunity to learn more. When the bottle is tightly secured to the base, the feeder should not be leaking. our Consumer Relations Team will be glad to provide troubleshooting assistance or an in-warranty replacement if needed. Review RateBest feeder yet!I have a total of 7 of these feeders and think they are outstanding. Very easy to fill and clean. The Hummers around our house swarm the feeders and it is such a pleasure to sit and watch them. I have actually had one start land on the perch while I was trying to hang it up.
I do agree with some of the comments though as the last two feeders that I bought leak almost every time I use them. I have tried everything to stop the leaking but with no luck so far. After all, with owing 7 of these feeders, I do know how to make them work. Even though 2 of my feeders give me fits, I still think the Magnolia Top Fill Feeder is the best on the market. Thank you Perky-Pet.

Filling Your Feeder:
Here are a few things to review before filling the feeder:
- Check to make sure the base compartments are securely tightened
- Push container into base to close ports to prevent leakage
- Unscrew to cap to fill with nectar
- Screw cap back on securely to form an airtight seal.
- We recommend keeping the feeder in the closed position until you get to the spot where you want to hang it.
- To open nectar reservoir - hold base with one hand and pull up on the container with the other to open ports for feeding. Your feeder is now ready.
Please note: if the cap does not fit securely on to the feeder and you see a gap between the cap and the feeder, the seal may be the issue. Please contact our Consumer Care Department at 1.800.800.1819 or firstname.lastname@example.org to request a new outer ring for you cap.
To replace the outer ring, push firmly on the center of the cap to pop out the middle. Replace with new outer ring.
Hanging Your Feeder
- Ideally a sheltered southeastern exposure location is best for hanging bird feeders since birds like to feed in the sun and out of the wind. Birds also prefer not to have any obstructions over their feeding area so they can see any predators. more»
- Keeping your feeder clean and full of fresh bird seed is very important to the health of visiting birds. It is recommended that you clean your wild bird feeder every two weeks. more»
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I'm new to Top Fill feeders, are there tips on filling for beginners?
A: Yes, follow the steps below.
Q: What criteria should I use when selecting a hummingbird feeder?
A: Make sure it is one that will be easy to clean and fill, especially since you will need to clean the feeder every few days. If you are worried about bees and wasps or ants invading the feeder, purchase a hummingbird feeder with bee guards, such as the Perky-Pet model #203CP or ant guards, Perky-Pet model #242.
Q: How do I clean my hummingbird feeders?
A: Hummingbird feeders need to be cleaned every 1-2 weeks. Use hot water and a bottle brush, along with mild soap; be sure to rinse thoroughly. The Perky-Pet cleaning mop is specifically designed for the purpose of cleaning hummingbird feeders, and is very convenient to use. This cleaning mop can also be used on seed feeders and oriole feeders for those small, tight spaces that are difficult to reach.
Q: What is the importance of providing water for hummingbirds?
A: Hummingbirds need fresh, clean water just as much as they need nectar. Hummingbirds stay healthy by using water not just for drinking, but also bathing, cleaning their feathers and to remove parasites. Waterers are better options than bird baths because they provide hummingbirds with fresh, clean water that prevents dirt and debris from contaminating it. In hotter climates or seasons, providing water for hummingbirds makes it easy for them to have access to a water source and retain their energy.
