Review RateHummingbirds cannot get to nectar through the flower ports.
We have had probably a dozen Perky hummingbird feeders over the years because our raccoons love to break the feeders getting at the nectar. This past spring we had no unbroken feeders, so I went to Lowes and purchased two of your pinchwaist feeders, a design we have had before. Both leaked all their nectar immediately on filling. So, I returned them and bought your top-filling feeders with the big white flowers. These did just the opposite. The hummers try and try but cannot get to the nectar, seemingly because of the angle of the rubber port, which directs their bills into the plastic insert rather than the nectar pool. We have read the assembly directions, have taken the feeders apart several times, have run a thin cake tester through the port holes, and have tried to re-position the internal piece (which cannot be done because of the way it locks to the plastic thread insert) all to no avail. Has anyone else encountered what appears to be this design flaw? We are disappointed because here in Oklahoma we are close to migration season and our hummers cannot tank up for the long journey. Is there any advice you can give us regarding this problem? Can you recommend one of your feeder designs over others? Thank you for any advice you can give.Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative
Perky-Pet® strives to create high-quality feeders for our customers and the birds to enjoy. We regret to hear about this unusual experience.
Hummingbirds have long bills and tongues that can reach deep into flowers to find nectar. Our feeders are designed to provide a similar experience for the hummingbirds. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) for additional assistance.
Review RateLOVE this feeder!
I just purchased 2 of these, a 24 oz & a 16 oz. no leaking at all. I love how everything comes apart for easy cleaning. The "top fill" is WONDERFUL! I used to spill the syrup all over when using the original one. I love this one and highly recommend it!
Review RateGood idea - bad design
I discovered this feeder late last summer and loved it. So in the fall, when I had my first ever infusion of migrants (over 20 at time for days!!!) I went and bought 4 more. One of them leaked every time with the slightest of movement (especially when I was taking it out to hang it!). The others did ok. This year I've put 4 of them out, and all but 1 leaks routinely. But now some of the flowers have torn and discolored. I came here to look for replacements, but can't find any. This is so frustrating. I'm going back to the regular style glass feeders with perches, and maybe I'll attract even more hummers. VERY disappointed after spending so much $ last fall.Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateAnother leaker!
Saw a hummingbird this week, ran out and purchased this feeder. Liked the top loading concept. Now I'm drenched with the sweet sticky feeding solution due to leaking. Should have read the reviews before purchasing. Can't return to store for a refund, sorry hummers!Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative
We are very sorry to hear about this experience and are happy to help.
The base of this feeder has several parts that, when assembled securely, will prevent leaking. When trying out a new feeder, it can be helpful to test it over a sink with just water to make sure how the parts go together.

Review RateDisappointed with this one
Some type of design flaw, I'm guessing. Great reviews in 2014 and 2015, but in 2016 the reviews started to come in with complaints of leaking. I had the same experience: after washing, filling, and hanging, within two minutes a fast drip had started; within 15 minutes, the feeder was empty. I thought perhaps I hadn't screwed things on tightly enough, so I tried again with the same result 2 more times. Oh well! Customer service was great and they're sending a new one, so we'll see what happens! Still the only feeders I want to buy!Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateSyrup leaks out when tilted
Although I like being able to load from the top, this design is flawed in that when the feeder is tilted, such as when the wind blows, the liquid leaks out of the space between the upper and lower halves of the base. We don't know why this is an issue now. The feeder seemed to work fine last summer. Maybe it was leaking then but we just didn't realize it. Now the syrup leaks out every time. We have replaced it with a new, less expensive, old-fashioned kind.Response From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations Representative
We apologize for this experience and appreciate the feedback.
The vacuum inside a hummingbird feeder prevents the nectar from leaking. When the feeder is tilted, the vacuum seal is broken. We recommend placing all hummingbird feeders in an area of little to no wind.

Review Rateextremely convenient
The convenience of a top loading feeder is outstanding.
Review RateWorks great
This is the second one I have bought. Love the top fill, and the hummers are using it. I have had no problems with mine.
Review RateGreat feeder it looks good, there is a flawI bought two of these about a week ago. I like you fill it from the top. twice the top has come off letting the glass fall to the ground. since it was over the grass it didn't break . I made sure it was not over tighten. I made a fix using small chain. it is easy to fill with out taking the feeder down. I have include pic'sResponse From WoodstreambrandsPatty : Consumer Relations RepresentativeThank you for providing this detailed feedback. It will be shared with our Product Manager. We apologize for this experience. The lid should thread firmly and securely onto the bottle.

Q: I typically get a lot of ants around my hummingbird feeders, what can I do to prevent them from getting to the nectar?

Q: What criteria should I use when selecting a hummingbird feeder?
A: Make sure it is one that will be easy to clean and fill, especially since you will need to clean the feeder every few days. If you are worried about bees and wasps or ants invading the feeder, purchase a hummingbird feeder with bee guards, such as the Perky-Pet® model #203CP or ant guards, Perky-Pet® model #242.
Q: How do I clean my hummingbird feeders?
A: Hummingbird feeders need to be cleaned every 1-2 weeks. Use hot water and a bottle brush, along with mild soap; be sure to rinse thoroughly. The Perky-Pet® cleaning mop is specifically designed for the purpose of cleaning hummingbird feeders, and is very convenient to use. This cleaning mop can also be used on seed feeders and oriole feeders for those small, tight spaces that are difficult to reach.
Q: What is the importance of providing water for hummingbirds?
A. Hummingbirds need fresh, clean water just as much as they need nectar. Hummingbirds stay healthy by using water not just for drinking, but also bathing, cleaning their feathers and to remove parasites. Waterers are better options than bird baths because they provide hummingbirds with fresh, clean water that prevents dirt and debris from contaminating it. In hotter climates or seasons, providing water for hummingbirds makes it easy for them to have access to a water source and retain their energy.
