Perky-Pet® Squirrel-Be-Gone® Cylinder Wild Bird Feeder
This Perky-Pet® Squirrel-Be-Gone® Cylinder Wild Bird Feeder features weight-activated seed protection and bird-preferred u-shaped perches. When a squirrel climbs on this feeder, its weight triggers ornate metal leaves to slide down and cover each of the six feeding ports to block the squirrel from feeding.
The feeder's cage and leaf designs are finished with a rustic red powder-coat, which protects the metal from the sun and weather elements. The Squirrel-Be-Gone® Cylinder Wild Bird Feeder includes U-shaped perches that allow birds to feed comfortably from multiple angles.
The feeder stands 26 inches high, 7 inches wide and has a 1.75 lb seed capacity.
Attractive and functional, this feeder is sure to accentuate any setting, draw birds in to feed and drive squirrels back to their own feeders.

Review RateImpossible to clean.
My squirrels couldn’t get to the food, but this thing is impossible to clean. I’m pretty handy and couldn’t even figure out how to take it apart to clean it. I have gone after it several times and cannot get the gross stuff that builds up at the bottom out, and the design allows inaccessible seed at the bottom.Response From WoodstreambrandsLauren : Consumer Relations Representative
Hello Annie - Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. This feeder is not able to be disassembled for cleaning. We recommend soaking it in a mild soap and water solution and using a long bottle brush to clean any hard to reach places. Please contact us at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) with any questions.
Review RatePoor design
Not Squirrel proof at all. Should not be labeled as such. Poor design . If a Squirrel manages to get on the feeder the first thing he does is chew the plastic support bracket upunder the metal top and makes the feeder drop to the ground or he hang from his feet and empties the feeder through the holes. Squirrel proof means if the Squirrel gets on the feeder he should not be able to damage it.Response From WoodstreambrandsLauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateTotal waste of money
Worked for awhile but the top under the metal lid is made of plastic and the squirrels chewed right through it and can easily get to the feed - total waste of money! If you’re going to make a squirrel proof feeder make it out of something they can’t chew!Response From WoodstreambrandsKathryn : Consumer Relations Representative
We're sorry to hear the furry vandals chewed up your feeder! We recommend hanging feeders at least 4 ft off the ground and at least 8 ft away from launching points like trees, fences, roofs, and similar structures. Review RateNot holding up
I've had this feeder 3 months & it looks like it has been through every assault possible. The cable has not held well; most of the seed ports are either chewed so much that they no longer fit into the tube, one even has fallen fwd and lodged between the cage & the tube. All this has happened in just the past week. I went out clean the feeders this morning & found it in total destruction - almost the entire top and bottom are severely damaged. Very disappointed. My little birds love it but apparently squirrels & something else with sharp teeth & claws have had their way with it. It seems to be too much plastic.Response From WoodstreambrandsJules : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RatePlastic reservoirs do not keep out squirrels
Purchased two of these feeders from big box stores, within the last week. The feeder is NOT all metal. The seed reservoirs have frames (made of plastic) all around them, and the squirrels just chew them away, and the seed comes pouring out. While the weight-activated wire structure does frustrate squirrels, once they have their grimy little paws on the opening, it is done for. Metal framing around the seed reservoirs would have been much better. This feeder is attractive and the birds have no trouble finding it and feeding from it. Problem is, so do the army of squirrels that live in our back yard. They have destroyed two different feeders, unfortunately. A little more metal in the right places, might have made this a 5-star feeder, in my opinion.Response From WoodstreambrandsLauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateNot Squirrel Proof
I purchased this feeder at Walmart to supplement another squirrel proof feeder I purchased at lowe's. The one from Lowe's is far superior than the PerkyPet squirrel proof feeder. After hanging the feeder, I finally had birds feeding from it. Finches only, Cardinals, titmice and juncos ignored it and flew on. I did watch squirrels approach it and saw how frustrated they were in trying to get seed from the tube, eventually they attacked my suet feeders for a food source. unfortunately, the construction of the feeding tube leaves a lot to be desired for the same reasons everyone else has identified.. moldy seed, not easy to clean. This morning I watched a squirrel jump a short distance from the railing of my deck and landed on my feeder. The weight of the squirrel caused the lactching mechanism to fail and the only thing left hanging from the pole was the lid and wire holding it on the hook. The in trying to put it back together, I realized that there are four plastic grips that the lid snaps into place onto the tube. It didn't take much force to reattach it but when I tried to pull it apart, playing the part of the squirrel, the lid came off easily . In order to continue using it, i had to install metal pins through the lid into the tube barrel, rendering the squirrel proof cage from being used. Wouldn't buy another one or recommend this to anyone buying it.Response From WoodstreambrandsJennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for providing this feedback! We are very sorry for this experience and have shared these comments with our Product Manager for further review.
For the best results, it is important to hang the feeder at least 12 feet away from any squirrel launching points (deck, large bush, tree..etc) and four feet off the ground. Placement is key when deterring squirrel access, even when using a squirrel-resistant bird feeder.

Review RateI wouldn't buy this again.
I have two "squirrel-proof" feeders. The other one is far superior to this version. Why? Well, for one thing, ventilation. My other feeder has ventilation at the base of the feeder which keeps damp seed from clumping and getting moldy. So far, your version has ended up with clumped and moldy bird seed every time I've set it out. For another, cleanability. I can take the other feeder totally apart and put the pieces in the dishwasher if I want. This feeder is really hard to clean, especially below the lowest openings. Seeds get stuck between the column base and the clear seed holder; I can't get them out at all! The bar across the top makes it difficult to get a brush down inside. The squirrels haven't found a way inside this feeder--yet. Hopefully they won't. But there's a lot of things you can do to make this feeder better for the owners and the birds.
Review RateAttractive, but far from squirrel-proof.
1) This feeder is NOT all metal. The "frames" around the feeding ports are plastic, as is the transparent feed tube; and squirrels just love to chew on them. 2) While the weight-activated outer structure does frustrate squirrels, smaller seeds spill out of the ports and stick to the rim of the base, providing the little beasts with encouraging treats. 3) Damp or wet seed easily clogs the places where seed enters the feeding ports. Sure, this can be fixed by cleaning, but with the loss of expensive seed. 4) As the seed level lowers, the upper ports do not receive seed, while the lower ones clog (see 3). Although this feeder is attractive and in my experience birds have no trouble finding it and feeding from it, squirrels do the same -- no matter how high it hangs.Response From WoodstreambrandsJennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RatePiece of trash
I sure wish I'd researched this first. Its going back to the store tomorrow. A. There are no instructions on how to open to put seed inside and B. Now that I read there is no way to take it apart to clean it is a health risk to the birds. Clean it every two weeks? By soaking it in warm soapy water? Obviously you guys don't use the products you sell or your design would be efficient. This is far from it.Response From WoodstreambrandsElizabeth : Consumer Relations Representative

Wild Bird Feeders - FAQs
Q: Where should I hang this feeder to keep squirrels away?
A: Squirrels are great jumpers, so hang any bird feeder at least 12 feet away from an "launch pad" and at least four feet from the ground. They're also well known for their ability to climb, so try hanging it off a smooth metal pole that doesn't provide them with footholds.
Q: How do I clean my bird feeder?
A: All bird feeders should be cleaned once every two weeks. The Squirrel-Be-Gone® Cylinder is relatively easy to clean.
First, unscrew the top cap and remove the bottom plug, and then empty any remaining seeds or debris. Next, rinse the cap, plug and seed reservoir and scrub with a mild soap-and-water solution. Use a soapy rag to wipe down the wire cage. Finally, rinse any remaining soap, reassemble and allow it to drip-dry before refilling with seed.
Q: I have more questions about squirrel-proofing my feeders, who should I contact?
A: First, look through the pages in our Squirrels 101 feature, which offers plenty of tips on keeping squirrels off your bird feeders. If you still have questions, you can contact us on Facebook or call our customer relations team at at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973).
