My squirrels open the lide and feast! By SuzanO

I have pictures of a squirrel sitting IN the feeder. I had to put a copper pipe over the wire and take it down to get the pipe off to fill it. They can open it! Now I just put hot pepper sauce on the seed. The birds don't care... the squirrels hate it.

Hello,

Thank you for providing this feedback! We apologize for this experience. Feeder placement is very important when forcing the squirrels to interact with the weight activated perch. We recommend hanging the feeder at least 12 feet away from any squirrel launching point and four feet off the ground.

Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) with any questions or for additional assistance. We are happy to help!

Horrible feeder By Bernie

This feeder is horrible. There is no way for the water to drain and the seed does not filter down as it is consumed, so not only does the tray get empty, it gets wet and stays that way. Birds do not like it and neither do we.

Needs improvements By BirdyK

Has design flaws. The top on the one I purchased isn't strong enough to keep those pesky squirrels from accessing. They can also hang from the cable and still get at the seed. The cable broke after a few months. I would strongly suggest that it be pole mounted (with a baffle to help with furry marauders!) because if filled, it will likely not hang for very long. The squirrels around here are not deterred by safflower or hot peppered anything. Bummer!

Model 351 By JC

The squirrel a have figured out how to hang from the wire down over the side and eat the seed.

Thank you for sharing this feedback.  We are sorry to hear that the squirrel has figured out a way around the deterrent features on this feeder. Adding cayenne pepper to the mix or using safflower seed can help to repel squirrels.

Our feeders are covered by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a one-year replacement warranty. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) for additional assistance.

Feeder needs more thoughtful design and testing. By warpwiz

This feeder has so much potential. BUT: 1. It's heavy! I have to use 2 shepard's crooks side by side to support it with a full load of seed. 2. The front (behind the lever mechanism) is bowed. This allows our furry friends to dig into the seed behind the trough when the cover is down. 3. The seed does not flow to the trough easily. I have to give the feeder a shake to fill the trough every day or 2. As the seed dwindles, the birds use other sources.

flawed feeder By carol

terrible feeder, the seed tray is not sheltered and when it rains the seeds harden and have to be dug out with your finger and I also find a tray full of empty hulls that have to be emptied out. Not sure why this happens, but it's definitely a feeder with design flaws

Response From Woodstreambrands
Patty : Consumer Relations Representative

Hello Carol,

We appreciate the feedback and regret that the desired results were not seen.

Using a hulled or shelled seed can reduce the amount of mess that birds will leave behind from some seeds.  If the weather will cause the seed to become saturated, we recommend temporarily removing a feeder or moving it to a more sheltered location.

Perky-Pet® offers a wide variety of feeder to meet the needs of our customers and the birds.  Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) for additional assistance. Our feeders are covered by a 30 day satisfaction guarantee and a one year warranty.

More like Squirrel Be Feasting By Gatorgal

Took the squirrels less than 48 hours to figure out how to prop themselves up on the wheel that adjusts the tension and reach around and get seed. Greasing the wheel didn't deter. We also were mindful to make sure that the locking cap for the top was activated, but on the second day we found a squirrel INSIDE the feeder feasting away. Numerous times we chased it out, relocked it and would find the critter back inside within the hour. We had also ordered safflower seed as recommended but that hasn't stopped them, neither has pepper. Considering a falcon for the next step in our battle......jk
