It seems like mosquitoes know the exact second you step outside of your home to enjoy the great outdoors. Nothing ruins a good time like a swarm of mosquitoes buzzing around you and your family or that one mosquito that somehow made it inside. It’s a good thing you bought those Dynatrap® Mosquito Traps… but where is the best spot to place them? How do they work? Do you need to check them constantly?
To answer these questions and more, we’ve compiled a guide for both indoor and outdoor traps, so you can know exactly where to place them, how to use your new traps, and everything in between.
Outdoor Traps
To battle not only mosquitoes but other nuisance flying insects like wasps, biting flies, and moths, your property deserves powerful protection. Outdoor traps need to be durable enough to withstand all types of weather conditions while remaining effective and they need to provide adequate coverage, so you can enjoy your property without stressing about getting bitten. Dynatrap® Outdoor Insect Traps can provide all of this and so much more. How Dynatrap Outdoor Insect Traps Work
Depending on the model you own, each trap provides different layers of protection against flying insects. Dynatrap® attracts mosquitoes by mimicking humans breath. Mosquitoes find the scent irresistible, although it’s odorless to us, which attracts them and other flying insects to the trap.
Many flying insects are also attracted to light. Dynatrap® Outdoor Insect Traps come with a powerful UV light that starts to attract insects the second it’s turned on. Some traps also use a mosquito lure, which comes in a convenient, small pouch. Simply place it inside the catch chamber and it will enhance the trap’s ability to attract more insects and provide you with an extra layer of protection.
Once the insects are lured towards the trap, the whisper-quiet fan sucks them inside where they are securely held until the time of disposal.
Choosing the Best Location
It’s a common misconception that insect traps should be placed near where people will be gathered. Since these traps are designed to attract as many mosquitoes and other insects as possible, the last thing you want to do is be anywhere near one when it’s operating at peak power. For the best results, it’s recommended that you place each trap at least 6-12 meters away from where people will be sitting or standing and ideally place them near areas where you’ve noticed signs of insect activity.
Having several units in place will provide optimal coverage and ensure minimal numbers of insects can pass through your defenses. Place several Dynatrap Insect Traps throughout your property to create a ring of defense they will have difficulty passing through. Be sure to take notice of the coverage area of each trap and place them within that range of each other.
For example, if your traps cover up to 2000 square meters, you don’t want to place them more than 2000 square meters away from each other since that would provide an opening for flying insects to invade. Instead, place each trap just under the coverage area away from each other to avoid large gaps in protection.
Placement Options
There are so many ways to place a Dynatrap Outdoor Insect Trap due to their versatile design. Nearly all of the insect traps can be placed on a flat surface and their lightweight design makes them easy to transport wherever you need them. Many traps also come with a chain that allows them to be hung from a hook wherever you please, giving you even more freedom to customize your trap’s placement. Several Dynatrap Insect Trap models come with a pole mount which provides even more placement options. These fit nearly all models of Dynatrap outdoor traps and can be placed nearly anywhere you’ve noticed signs of insect activity.
Indoor Insect Traps
Few things are more annoying and stressful than knowing there are mosquitoes in your home but not being able to catch them. Dynatrap Indoor Insect Traps take the guesswork out of attracting and trapping mosquitoes and other flying insects like fruit flies and house flies. Other insects traps can be unsightly and tend to offer only the most basic of features. Dynatrap Indoor Insect Traps not only offer designs that will blend seamlessly into your décor, but they also offer the latest technological advances.
How Dynatrap Indoor Insect Traps Work
Much like the outdoor counterparts, Indoor Insect Traps use insects’ natural instincts against them to effectively attract and trap them. Each indoor trap features a UV light that emits a soft glow which lures insects that are naturally attracted to light towards the trap and away from areas you wish to protect. Once the insects venture onto the trap, StickyTech glue cards trap and securely hold insect pests until you’re ready to dispose of them. Most traps come with a sleek, decorative cover that allows you to trap insects out of sight, so no one ever has to know you’re battling insects.
Choosing the Best Location
The more coverage you have throughout your home, the less likely you’ll suffer through an insect infestation. Chances are you’ve noticed several areas where insects tend to gather. For the best results, place your indoor insect traps near areas of insect activity for increased catch rates.
Be sure to place the traps several feet away from where you typically sit or stand for longer periods of time as the trap will attract insects toward it. Insects may decide to bite or annoy you on their way to the trap, so it’s best to minimize the likelihood of that happening. If you want insects to avoid a certain area, place traps several feet or even a room away from those areas so insects travel towards the light of the trap and away from the spaces you wish to protect.
How Often Should Traps Be Emptied?
Indoor traps are just as easy to empty. When the glue cards do not have much free space left or when dust or debris minimizes the card’s stickiness, it’s time for a fresh card. Simply pull the card out, dispose, and add a fresh glue card.
You never know just how valuable something is until it’s not there when you truly need it. Having replacement UV bulbs and glue cards on hand when you run out is essential, especially during peak insect season. Having extra bulbs and cards ready to use means you never have to suffer through long breaks in protection against flying pest insects.
