General Product Information

What makes the Dynatrap the best choice for controlling mosquitoes?

The Dynatrap quietly and effectively reduces the population of mosquitoes and other flying insects without zapping.

How is this trap different than other products on the market

The Dynatrap does not use electricity to kill insects, so you will not have any loud zapping noises, burning odors, or insect fragments scattered on the floor or ground. It does not require propane to attract insects, so you do not need to purchase and refill propane tanks. Just plug it in and turn it on, let it run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Is the Dynatrap Noisy?

No! The only moving part is the vacuum fan, which produces a low hum similar to a computer fan.

How soon should my Dynatrap begin to control mosquitoes and other flying insects?

The trap will begin to catch mosquitoes and other flying insects immediately. It will gradually reduce your mosquito population and within 6 weeks you will have successfully broken the mosquito’s lifecycle.

Can I use my Dynatrap Outside?

All of the Dynatrap’s classified as “indoor/outdoor” traps are constructed of durable, all-weather materials. They can be used outdoors year ‘round.

What attracts mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes are attracted to warm blooded animals. They sense body heat, among other things, to locate a blood meal. The Dynatrap mimics this attractant by using a UV bulb which emits light and heat.

How high off the ground should I place my Dynatrap?

The Dynatrap should be placed three to six feet off the ground. This can be accomplished by placing it on a table or shelf or hanging it from a shepherd’s hook or tree.

Should I leave the Dynatrap plugged in all of the time?

Yes. The Dynatrap should be left on 24 hours a day, seven days a week (except when cleaning) during the insect and mosquito season. In some areas of the world this might be several months during the summer, in other areas, it may be year-around. Dynatrap reaches maximum effectiveness in 6-8 weeks, but please continue running Dynatrap 24/7 after this period for the duration of the insect and mosquito season.

It has recently rained, will the mosquitoes return?

Mosquitoes require water to lay their eggs. You can reduce a mosquito’s breeding ability by removing standing water from around your home. Does my Dynatrap work on fleas, bed bugs, or lice?

The Dynatrap is not effective against these insects.

How long will the mosquitoes stay alive in the retaining cage?

Once mosquitoes are trapped in the retaining cage, they may stay alive for 12-24 hours (depending on the insect), before they die from dehydration.

I have noticed my trap isn’t catching mosquitoes. What am I doing wrong?

First of all, make sure the Dynatrap is 20 to 40 feet away from your outdoor activity area. Determine where the mosquitoes are breeding if possible, as they do breed in wet or moist areas. Sitting near the trap actually makes it more likely that mosquitoes will find their way over to you, since they may be getting attracted in by the trap and then finding you close by.

Second, other sources of light can reduce the efficiency of the unit as far as attracting things. The more distractions the mosquitoes have in your backyard, the less likely they will be drawn to the trap. So if a light must be on, try to move the trap away from it if possible.

Third, make sure the trap is 3 to 6 feet off the ground. This ensures that the bugs will be able to see it, and not be covered or shielded by a bush, tree, or chair.

Once you put the Dynatrap out, it will take about 3 weeks before it has any impact on the mosquito population, since that’s about how long it takes for mosquito eggs to hatch, and 6 weeks to break the life cycle. You may need to move your trap around to a few places before you find the most effective spot. For the best results, the trap must be left on 24/7.

My Dynatrap is not working-neither the fan nor the light comes on. What should I do?

First, verify the power source is working, the power switch is on, and try different outlets. Also, make sure the fuse (which is located underneath the top lid) is screwed in tightly and securely. If none of this works please contact our customer service department at 1-877-403-8727 and they will assist you further.

What is the power rating/voltage of the Dynatrap?

Most Dynatrap Mosquito Traps are 120 volts. Two models, the Dynatrap Ultralight Mosquito Trap and the DT1000-12V Mosquito Trap, are 120v-220v with a 12v adapter. Refer to the Technical Information near the bottom of each product’s page for the specific voltage of the model you are interested in. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

How much does it cost each month to operate the Dynatrap Mosquito Trap 24/7?

The cost to operate your trap per month will depend upon the wattage of the Dynatrap Mosquito Trap you are using and the cost of electricity in your area. On average a kilowatt-hour costs about $0.11 CAD in Canada. Most Dynatrap Mosquito Traps have a wattage equal to 15w-24w; it will cost approximately $1.25-$2.00 CAD per month to operate these traps 24/7. We recommend replacing your bulb(s) every four months. The bulb in the DT150 will last for approximately 20,000 hours, after which it is not replaceable and the unit can then be discarded.

As for the fan blades, the provided cleaning brush, a wet washcloth, or a Clorox cleaning wipe are recommended in order to dust off debris. For convenience and to prolong the life of the unit, you should clean the trap whenever you empty it.
