How do I splice ElectroBraid®?

It’s simple to use an ElectroBraid® poly braid splicer to connect one strand of ElectroBraid® to another. You will need to do this when you come to the end of one reel of ElectroBraid® and are starting another.

  1. Make sure to tape and singe both ends of Braid™ you plan to connect.
  2. Overlap the two ends of ElectroBraid™ by about four (4) inches, ensuring there is direct contact between the copper strands in each strand of Braid.
  3. Place the overlapped pieces of Braid™ into the open side of the poly braid splicer, arranging the Braid™ around the two protruding screws.
  4. Secure the Braid™ in place with the provided washers and nuts.

How many poly braid splicers do I need?

  1. Count the number of end posts, and multiply by the number of strands used in your fence = ____.
  2. Count the number of fence lines that exceed 1000 feet (the length of Braid™ included in each reel of ElectroBraid®) and multiply by the number of strands used in your fence = _____.
  3. For each additional electrical connection (examples: connecting copper lead-out wire from your charger/energizer to your ElectroBraid® fence*, connecting the copper lead-out wire from ground rods to the fence), connecting Braid™ to each horse gate handle, you will need one poly braid splicer= ____.
  4. Add these three numbers together = _____. This in the number of poly braid splicers you need. * For easier troubleshooting, many ElectroBraid® customers choose to use an extra poly braid splicer to connect electrical components. That way, if you want to disconnect the electrical from a strand, you do not have to use a tensioning device to hold tension on the strand.

How do I use a poly braid splicer when installing end posts?

You will feed the leading end of the ElectroBraid® strand through the insulator ElectroBraid® roller insulator IROLLB10-EB and IROLLW10-EB and secure the Braid™ to itself using the poly braid splicer. Here’s how:

  1. Tape and singe the leading end of the Braid™.
  2. Feed this leading end of the ElectroBraid® through the roller insulator and fold it back on itself, allowing for at least four (4) inches of overlap.
  3. Place the overlapped pieces of Braid into the open side of the poly braid splicer, arranging the Braid™ around the two protruding screws.
  4. Position the poly braid splicer about two (2) inches from the insulator, with at least two (2) inches of ElectroBraid® outside the splicer.
  5. Secure the Braid™ in place with the provided washers and nuts.

Use only recommended materials

Do not use make-shift insulators, splicers or ordinary electrical wire with your ElectroBraid® fence system. Use only copper-clad ground rods ElectroBraid® copper ground rod kit or ElectroBraid® sectional ground rod kit, copper-coated poly braid splicers and ElectroBraid® copper lead-out wire. Using genuine ElectroBraid® materials:

  • prevents corrosion due to electrolysis
  • provides optimum electrical conductivity
  • reduces maintenance
  • increases the life of your fence
