Havahart® Medium 1-Door Easy Set® Trap

Had openings in roof due to tree damage. Roof was open for several days. As squirrels are always running across the roof - placed 3 traps in various parts of the attic once the holes were fixed. Caught 2 the first day - released outside and put traps back. Left them in attic for two more weeks - nothing else was caught. Black adjustment knob made it very easy to set proper trigger weight. Also put peanut butter on tin foil and placed it past the trigger plate to maximize how far in they would have to go.

The trap for squirrels works very well. However once trapped, the squirrels go crazy inside and desperately bite the wires of the cage and end up bleeding from their mouths. It should also advise the users to cover the cage immediately with a dark material as it makes the squirrels calm down. It would be useful and humane to have some kind of flooring. It protects the animal and also your car against defecation by the scared animal. Releasing the squirrels is very easy and safe.

A squirrel in our attic somehow manages to back out of the trap before the door locks. His reflexs are so fast he is able to do this. The trap design allows the door to be pushed open until it comes completely down and locks. Is there anything we can do to prevent this from happening..

We live in Winnipeg and purchased the Havahart® Medium 1-Door Easy Set® Trap on July 10, 2019, thinking we would catch about three or four pesky rabbits. At first we would bait the trap with rabbit pellets, baby carrots and flower petals. This worked and we would catch one rabbit a week. Then I moved the trap to a spot under our Siberian Cedar tree and used the cardboard box that the trap came in to fashion a house shaped structure over the trap. We covered the cardboard with garbage bags, to prevent damage from the rains. We also stopped baiting the trap with food and now lined the bottom of the trap with grass and leaf clippings. Bingo … there is now a steady flow of rabbits and squirrels. Total number of rabbits caught 18, squirrels 15, and 1 bird. All have been released in the wild. This is as of September 27, 2019. The trap is so easy to use and works great.

Sensitivity screw is very difficult to satisfactorily adjust. Bait's getting stolen or door closes prematurely. Still trying to figure it out.

Product is a definite improvement over previous Havahart traps. It did catch a squirrel. seems well engineered and well made. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the relatively high cost.

Havahart traps are safe and secure for both the trapped animal and the person tasked with removal. Have caught numerous pests including a skunk (which we covered up before transport in a pickup truck) and deposited them to a wooded area several miles away. All animals were released unhurt including the skunk who just waddled away. Unlike a Disney movie the animals did not return. Woodstream Products were quick and easy to deal with, free shipping and the trap was $5.00 cheaper than Amazon.
