Great Feeder By John

This is a fantastic feeder! I mount it on a pole and found that this solves all my problems with squirrels and Raccoons. I then converted all my feeder to mount on poles. Here in Colorado (7200 ft elevation) snow is a problem so I generally find a way to mount one of your large plastic domes over or on the top of a feeder. This allows the birds to feed in most weather even when there is a foot of snow on the dome! I haven't done that yet with this feeder. The birds seem to get to the seeds in any weather.

Water collects and causes clumping By backyardgazer

I bought this feeder last spring at our local Lowe's, thinking it would be an improvement over the sock feeders, but I have been horribly disappointed. Despite the claims of drainage holes, water pooled in the base of the feeder whenever it rained, even if only lightly. Rain also caused the seed to form into rock-hard clumps at each of the cones in the body of the tube. I used sticks and high pressure nozzles on my hose to clean it out multiple times, I tried hanging it under trees, out in the open, and in the sun and had the same problems with water collecting & causing clumping. I even tried mixing in some hulled sunflower seed thinking airflow would be better than with all nyjer seed - same results. I cannot recommend this feeder to anyone. I hate to give up on a feeder that cost this much, but I think I will have to.

Thank you for sharing your experience! We're sorry to hear that water collected in the base. The holes in the seed tray were included in the design to prevent this and if your feeder was missing these please contact us directly at 855-737-5973. When filling this feeder it's important to use only thistle seed, as it is not designed to accomodate sunflower seeds.

Hanging Portion Separated from Feeder on First Filling By KDS

The first time I filled this feeder, the hanging ring portion snapped away from the feeder due to pour design. Why you did not use a screw/bolt to hold that in place instead of a cheap weld is beyond me. It is such a sturdy looking feeder otherwise. My friend came up with a way to allow the feeder to be hung. I am very disappointed in this product. I have numerous other products made by you that are great. I hope you do not start sacrificing quality for price.

Fantastic Feeder/Expensive to Maintain By ORNITHEUS

This is a fantastic feeder. It holds enough nyjer (thistle) to feed probably at least 30 lesser goldfinches at a time. They live this feeder. There are two baffles in the screen body of it that help distribute the seed evenly as it is consumed. This allows the birds more room for dining. The tray acts as a perch to catch seeds so larger birds like house finches and even mourning doves will find it easier to eat from. The cover keeps it dry and provides some shade. The down side is it uses a LOT of seed. It is expensive to operate due to this. A good starting finch feeder is the less expensive and smaller nyjer sock feeder.
