The Zareba® 5 Mile Solar Fence Charger powers up to 5 miles of fence and can be used with the following fence types: steel/aluminum, poly wire/poly rope and poly tape.
Patented mechanical heliotropic capability allows the energizer to turn to face the sun, regardless of the direction the T-post faces. Made in the USA, this charger can be used in conditions with no weeds or light weeds. The solar panel features compartmental damage-resistant construction.
Features include: 6-volt battery (included) and flashing "Fence OK" light to let you know the charger is working. With .1 joule output, it has intermittent DC output and a range of 5 miles under ideal conditions.

The Zareba® Fence Charger Warranty
ZAREBA® SYSTEMS LIMITED WARRANTY
Zareba (Red Snap’r, Blitzer and other energizers made by Woodstream warrants energizers with a mile rating under 20 miles for 12 months (a full year) from the date of purchase (or date or manufacture if proof of purchase is not provided) against defects in materials and workmanship, and from damage caused by lightning.
Energizers with a mile rating of 20 miles and over have a 24 month warranty (two years) total. Energizers with a mile rating of 50 miles or over have a 36 month warranty (three year) when registered on line at the time of purchase.
For any sized energizer, retain your receipt for proof of purchase or register your energizer on line at www.zarebasystems.com immediately after purchase. Also, please reference the web page for a list of Authorized Repair Centers and instructions on returning fence controllers for service.
Energizers which come equipped with the Storm Guard lightning protection module are warranted only when the Storm Guard is properly being used on the fencer.
TERMS APPLICABLE TO BOTH 30-DAY RETURN POLICY AND THE LIMITED WARRANTY
Neither the 30-day return policy nor the limited warranty applies to any defect caused by improper installation, misuse, product alterations, tampering, neglect, or any similar reason not related to product malfunctions or defects in the materials or workmanship of the product. The 30-Day return policy and the limited warranties are given only to the original purchaser of the product and not to any subsequent owners or to any other user or person when installed and used in accordance with the instructions found in the owner’s manual. No person is authorized to grant any warranty additional to or different from this written warranty.
To make a warranty claim, you must contact Woodstream Corp. at 800-800-1819 or www.zarebasystems.com regarding the defective product or parts during the warranty period or contact one of the Authorized Repair Centers listed on www.zarebasystems.com.
If you have not registered your energizer on line immediately after purchase, you may need to provide additional information such as, your name, mailing address, proof of your purchase date, and a description of the problem. If the defect is covered by the limited warranty, Woodstream Corp. or a repair station will repair or replace (at its option) the defective product or parts

The serial number for all Woodstream Corp. fence energizers will go to a 10 digit serial number. The format for the 10 digit serial number is as follows:

Review RateGood productI have had this unit for over 6 years and it is still working great. I did replace the battery but I also replaced the battery in many devices like my cordless drill. If you leave a battery it will self discharge and then if it gets to low on charge it may not take a charge again. Sorry to hear some people had issues but for me I would buy another one if this one ever dies.

Very upset with this product... Unit did not work.. immediately keeps sending a charge as soon as I hooked it up to the battery, and would not stop... second unit did the same.. battery was a healthy 12.8V DC. Used the 5 mile solar fence charger to contain my dogs in the back yard. Worked great for almost 2 years and then just quit. No light no nothing. Tractor Supply was no help at all, told me abruptly to just contact the manufacturer. I would not recommend this product. Extremely pleased with this solar charger and the company's 1 yr warranty on it! My first unit lasted 3 years on a 4 acre horse pasture, and I bought the same solar charger for my replacement. 2nd unit stopped working after a few months, but it was incredibly simple to have it repaired via the warranty, plus the warranty Rep explained how I could try replacing the battery in my original charger. Now I have 2 working solar chargers, giving me some extra cross-fencing flexibility!

For the price should last more than one season. I bought two of these units and both failed after a year. Didn't realize they weren't working because the light is still flashing, and horses went through temp fence. I also bought a different brand also from Tractor Supply and guess what it is still working on the 2nd year. I purchased the 5 mile solar unit from Tractor Supply 4 years ago. I used it briefly for about 5 months to charge 600 feet of poly wire fence. I’ve kept it stored in its original box in my garage. I needed it again and charged it for 3 days. It’s not working and I came to the conclusion that the battery is dead after testing the voltage output. I called my local Zareba dealer who is nearly 2 hours away and he told me these units are garbage, they are meant to be a single use unit and should be thrown away once the battery dies. He also said that in 23 years of working on these units, it’s never the battery that’s the problem, it’s the lousy made in China circuit board that uses connections the size of sand grains and in the old days the connections were the size of your finger tip. And to make things even more difficult, the screws on the back are not designed for either a flat or Phillips head screwdriver, but are some bizarre screw head for which I cannot source a screw driver. I paid $165 plus 10% tax for my unit. I WILL NOT be purchasing another Zareba product ever!!Response From WoodstreambrandsLauren : Consumer Relations Representative

These energizers are designed to last for many years for our customers. If the battery has gone out, replacements are available to get the energizer up and running again.

I've had this charger about 5 months now. Initially, it was fantastic, and worked exactly as I had hoped. Now, after 5 months of continuous use in a high sun-light area, the unit flashes red as it is working, but the fence is getting no power. Thank you for providing this feedback! We are sorry to hear of this experience. The first ting we want to test is the energizer to verify the amount of voltage you are seeing. To do this:
• Turn off the charger
• Remove both the fence and ground wires from the terminals
• Turn the charger on
• Place the hooked end of your fence tester on the fence terminal and the probe end of the tester on the ground terminal to determine the output voltage. This energizer should output 8,600 volts (+/- 20%).
If you are not seeing the correct voltage from the energizer itself, the next step is to test the battery by removing it from the energizer and testing with a volt meter. We want to find out if the battery is holding a charge or if it needs to be replaced. This reading should be 6 volts. You may need a torq screwdriver, size 15 to access the battery compartment.

The 5 mile solar lasted a little over a year then zero output. Units in great shape and internally no signs of damage or burned out circuits. Light blinks however zero output.
