Review RateGreat feeder no more pesky squirrels issues.
I purchased the squirrel slammer feeder in April 2021. Have not had any more problems with the squirrels since purchasing. The size is great the heavy plastic is strong enough that the squirrels can’t chew through. The only issue is the holes for the feeder would work better if smaller and round to help save on the seeds falling out. Other than that I’m very satisfied. Nice work.
Review RateBetter than some feeders I've had
Lose a lot of seed with this feeder (out the feeding ports- to the ground). Also, the ports can clog up during rain.
Review Ratewhat is this
Does not work, no change in tension all the seeds just fall out the feeding holes all over the ground you have to pull straight down to close hole, waste of moneyResponse From WoodstreambrandsKathryn : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. Some seed spillage is normal. To help deter squirrels, hang feeders at least 4 ft off the ground and 8 ft away from launching points like trees and fences. For more suggestions, please contact us at 855-737-5973.
Review Rate3 stars for now
Just bought it. First thing I noticed is that it hangs from two rods making it impossible to slide a baffle onto it that you might use if it had a single rod. Might consider that in future designs as a baffle would then prevent squirrels from opening the top or having anything to grab onto. Second thing I noticed, the tension adjustment does not make a significant change in the tension so I will see if this really will stop squirrels. Third, the feeding ports don't fully close even with full weight on the porch. Lastly, mine arrived with metal feeding ring supports bent out of shape. I was able to bend them back reasonably close to circular shape. Hoping plexiglass slide will prevent squirrels from having something to hand on. Will find out tomorrow how squirrels do, lol.
Review RateRedesign with plastic crossbar means this feeder isn’t squirrel proof.
I bought this feeder as a replacement for the same model I got through Amazon and enjoyed for many years without problems. In the new one, you have replaced the metal crossbar with a hard plastic one. The feeder lasted 2 months before squirrels chewed off the end of the crossbar, leaving the metal hanger to fall off, and the whole feeder to crash to the ground and crack apart. Why did you change the design from metal to plastic when it’s clear that squirrels can target the exposed ends of the plastic crossbar?Response From WoodstreambrandsRachel : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateSuspension dowel plastic -- squirrels eat right through
As another reviewer said, the top suspension dowel is made of plastic. Squirrels ate right through the ends and ruined the feeder. Checked the website and there do not appear to be replacement parts. If that piece were metal it would solve the problem.Response From WoodstreambrandsRachel : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateNot totally squirrel proofNice feeder. Good size. But, being a squirrel proof feeder the main suspension part, green rod is made of plastic, which didn’t take long for squirrels to chew through it.
Review RateTension dial doesn't catch. Birds cannot access seeds. Permanently shut.
After less than 6 months of use, the tension dial stopped working. I now cannot get the perch to open for the birds to access the seeds. It is permanently shut unless I manually hold it open. The tension dial just spins and spins.Response From WoodstreambrandsLauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateI would definitely recommend this feeder.
Love it. The squirrels can’t get in it. The only thing is the cardinals don’t seem to land on it. We’ve had nuthatches, chickadees and finches. We also have had downys. No Squirrels!!!!
Review RateSquirrels are smart..
It only 2 days for the birds to enjoy the new bird feeder. Four days for the squirrels to figure out how to get feed. " Tony" learn to push his nose under the lid and push until his body had raised the lid high enough to get his body inside the tube. He could back out of the tube with no problem. Neighbors and I enjoyed the show. I used a paper clip to secure the lid, so far so good.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What are the most popular bird seeds to use?
A: Black Oil Sunflower Seed is the most popular bird seed. It is much smaller than the traditional sunflower seed and best for those birds with smaller bills, such as the sparrow, junco and goldfinch. This seed is accepted by the greatest variety of birds.
Mixed Seed is also popular. It is best to buy the mixes that contain white proso millet, a tiny cream colored seed with a shiny shell. Mixes containing finely cracked corn and black oil sunflower are also preferred by a large number of birds.
Niger (Thistle Seed) is imported from Africa and Asia. Niger won't germinate, but it does have a tendency to become moldy due to lack of air circulation. If you notice mold on the seed, it must be removed from the feeder and the feeder must be cleaned thoroughly.
Q: How do I clean my bird feeders?
A: Before filling your feeder with fresh seed, it is recommended that the following precautions are taken:
- Remove all old seed.
- Soak feeder in a light water/bleach solution (9 parts water to 1 part bleach).
- Scrub feeder and allow to air dry.
- Rake and remove accumulated hulls and droppings from underneath the feeders.
- Spread mulch (bark or wood) under the feeder, replace mulch when soiled.
- Thoroughly wash hands after handling and cleaning feeders.
Q: What is the importance of providing water for wild birds?
A: Wild birds need fresh, clean water just as much as they need seed. Birds stay healthy by using water not just for drinking, but also for bathing, cleaning their feathers and to remove parasites. Waterers are better options than bird baths because they provide birds with fresh, clean water that prevents dirt and debris from contaminating it. In hotter climates or seasons, providing water for birds makes it easy for them to have access to a water source and retain their energy. By adding a water source, you also can attract a larger variety of birds to your yard. You may even attract more colorful birds that don't eat seed, but are in need of water!
