How to Set Your Trap Learn how to bait and set the classic mouse trap with the help of experts at VICTOR®. Once set, a rodent triggers the metal pedal, and the trap immediately springs closed to kill the mouse. Then, simply lift the rugged metal kill bar to dispose of the body. Target Unwanted Rodents Victor® Metal Pedal Mouse Traps are a time-tested solution for capturing the mice that have invaded your home or business. Mice are able to sneak inside buildings through the tiniest of spaces where they can spread disease and destroy your property.
Step-By-Step Guide The Metal Pedal is easy to set and use. Here’s how:
  1. Remove the arm bar from the staple.
  2. Move the arm bar to the back of the trap so it hangs over the back of the trap.
  3. Bait the trap with a high-protein substance, such as peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread. Place the bait on the metal bait pedal using a Q-Tip, toothpick or another tool to mask your human scent.
  4. Pull the kill bar back and hold it in place with your thumb.
  5. Swing the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the bent end of the arm bar into the notch on the metal pedal as shown. Slowly release pressure from the kill bar until the arm bar has fully engaged and holds the kill bar securely.
  6. Place the trap wherever you’ve seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents like to travel. The baited end of the trap should be placed flush against the wall.
  7. After the mouse is caught, properly dispose of the dead rodent. The trap can either be discarded or reused.

Five Stars "I've tried other brands of traps, but so many times the mice eat the bait but the trap doesn't trigger. So the bait just becomes a regular meal for the mice. These Victor traps are easy to bait, easy to set, cheap enough to use everywhere, and most importantly, they work!" (Review from Dagarb) Read More Reviews »

Terrible By Jeff

All these traps do is feed the mice. Waste of money.

Response From Woodstreambrands
Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative

We're sorry to hear the mice have escaped! We recommend that only a small amount of bait be used, too much can affect the functionality of the trap. Please contact us directly at 855-584-2867 for assistance, we're happy to help!

25 Years Ago They Always Worked By Rodents Make Lousy Neighbors

I have the same mouse who has been visiting for a while now. It doesn't seem to mind me unless I make a commotion. Last night I watched this mouse climb over the trip mechanism of a metal snap trap, turn around nibble on the bait and go on it's merry way. I was wondering how or why it avoided the trap. The trap was set according to instructions without an excessive amount of bait. My conclusion can only be this trap no longer always works. They used to when I lived in the woods in the 90's but the 2020 model in the city is worthless depending on the weight of animal. Victor needs to loosen up the trigger on these traps.

Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative

We're sorry to hear the rodent escaped! The design and manufacture of these traps has not changed, but we do appreciate your feedback. If the trap is not triggering, we recomend testing it (carefully!) with a pen or pencil. The trap should trigger with minimal force. If this is not the case, please contact us directly at 855-584-2867 for assistance. We're happy to help!

Pure Junk By Rusty

I caught 2 mice with the ‘plastic’ bait pedal traps. Figuring I had more mice, and out of the plastic pedal style, I purchased the ‘metal’ bait pedal style. Consecutive nights the mice got a free meal, trap didn’t trip although it was set properly. I then purchased the ‘plastic’ bait pedal style, although very difficult to set without tripping (you need very steady, calm hands), they at least work where the metal pedal style doesn’t. STAY AWAY from the metal bait type.

Response From Woodstreambrands
Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative

We appreciate your feedback! It's important to only use a little bit bait, too much can prevent the trap from triggering properly, so we recommend using approximately what fits on the end of a toothpick. For more suggestions on how to get the most out of these traps, please contact us directly at 855-584-2867. We're happy to help.

WTH A SMALL ALTERATION, THIS IS A GREAT TRAP. By Frednick

These are good traps but they do not work well as they are manufactured. The mice can lick the peanut butter off the trigger without springing the trap. I used to alter the trigger by bending it slightly to open the "hooking" action of the trigger. But now I drill a 3/8" hole under the trigger and put a piece of tape to cover the bottom of the hole. When the peanut butter bait is placed flush into the hole and a little is smeared on the surfaces of the trap to give off a good smell and the trap is set, the mouse must lift the trigger to get the bait. Not one has made it to the bait yet and it works every time. No need to re-bait the trap. None gets taken. It seems that lifting the trigger is impossible to do without it triggering the trap. A hard lesson for the many mice I have killed this way, even in my car. They all have a big smile on their faces because they think they are in for a tasty meal but they get a big surprise instead.

Jolly Good By Ger

If you are going to use a snap trap this one is the best. No snap trap works all the time but this one is better than any I have tried.

50/50 By Sasquatch

These do work but from my experience it's a 50/50 shot. I would have to rebait these ones a time or two before I got the little gray devil, I prefer the ones with the yellow plastic pedal that they have to step on to get to the bait, those I've had 100% success with & have used them for years.

Don’t buy not worth it By Ashlee

My husband bought 4 packs of these traps and we haven’t had one spring BUT the bait has been eaten off of every trap, I basically feel like I’m running a bed and breakfast with these traps! I’m pretty displeased, we set one in the garage and my husband hit it with a broom 3 times before it snapped!

Few small tweaks could make it better By Rumple

Out of the 5 pack I got only one of them actually worked... the problem your setup makes it so the bait gets held down by the trap itself so you're essentially just feeding the mice. Also the plastic bit that hold the copper is too thin making so you just snap your own fingers trying to set it. Gave a +1 to the rating because it did catch 1 mouse

Q&A
Q.The snap traps have the V bend, on the wire that holds into the copper bait holder. Should the V bend lay flat? Presently, the wire has the point of the wire sticking up instead of laying flat. .
A.

When properly set, the end of the arm bar and the metal pedal will both be raised at an angle. For a close-up look, please view our instructional video: https://youtu.be/vBeo0RlaWiQ .

Metal Pedal Mouse Traps - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I set the trap?

A: An instruction sheet and video are available that will give detailed step-by-step instructions on how to bait, set, place and dispose of the Victor® Metal Pedal Mouse Trap.

Click here to view the instruction sheet »

Q: What kind of bait do I use?

A: Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. For mice, anything high in protein like peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread is a great option. Also, nesting materials like dental floss, cotton or string are also great options. Try to use whatever bait or nesting material the rodents are currently feeding on or using to build nests.

Q: Can the trap be reused?

A: The Victor® Metal Pedal Mouse Trap can be reused or disposed of. It is personal preference. Check the traps frequently to ensure the trap is emptied as soon as the mouse is captured and the traps will last longer. Please note that for personal hygiene and biohazard awareness, disposable gloves should always be worn when installing or recovering any traps.
